joined the Squadron as a cadet in 1996 and was promoted at the ages of
14, 15, 16 and then 18 respectively, attaining the rank of Cadet
Warrant Officer. She was awarded best female cadet in West Essex Wing
twice and best female cadet in London Wing.
Steph’s
enthusiasm for flying was obvious as a cadet and was rewarded with both
an Air Training Corps Gliding Scholarship and a Royal Air Force Flying

UK camps, the inaugural RAF/ATC Band Camp and an overseas camp at RAF
Akrotiri in Cyprus.
Having
left the Squadron to study law in 2001, Steph rejoined as a civilian
instructor in January 2005. Steph became 2i/c Adjutant as well as
the Squadrons Project Officer
covering leadership, fieldcraft and first aid amongst others. In November 2009, Steph applied and was successfully commissioned into the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (Training Branch). Outside the Squadron,
Steph left her job in the Civil Service to pursue her music
career as a saxophonist and clarinettist. She is currently a
peripatetic music teacher in numerous schools in East London as well as
a freelancing session musician. |
