Rob
joined the Air Training Corps originally in 1979 at 1147 (Barking)
Squadron. During his time there he prgressed through not only the
training and Duke of Edinburgh Award programme, but also the rank
structure to leave as a Cadet Flight Sergeant. In 1988 he rejoined 1147
squadron as a Civilian Instructor and then left the unit later, due to
work commitments. Rob was
persuaded to rejoin the ATC in 1994 and joined 282 (East Ham) Squadron,
where
he began as a Civilian instructor. In 1995 he was appointed as Squadron
Warrant
Officer (SWO) and successfully steered the Squadron to win the Annual
Wing
drill competition twice. Rob covered many roles on the unit and
completed the
Range conducting Officer course and became the Squadron lead RCO.
During this
time he attended many camps including Gibraltar and Rhiendahlen,
Rob eventually took over as the Public Relations
Officer; a role he was to continue for a number of years.
In 1999, Rob
applied and was successfully commissioned into the Royal Air Force
Volunteer Reserve
(Training Branch). He became 282 Squadrons Adjutant and continued with
his
Media relations role and support to many other roles. In
2004, he was promoted to the rank of Flight Lieutenant and appointed
command of
282 East Ham ATC Squadron. A
role he
successfully carried out for four years and managed many changes to the
Squadron and greatly improved its media image during that time. He was
also
support London Wing with their Media profile during that time and was
able to
attend many events and promote the great work of the ATC.
Due to the
changing of work and home location Rob transferred to
2324 Squadron in 2008. Joining
a very
dynamic team and becoming the Squadron Adjutant - In 2010 Rob became
the
Squadron’s Commanding Officer.
Outside the
Chigwell Squadron and the ATC, Rob works within the
Community Safety field of a London
local authority, tackling low level crime and community issues. Rob is
also a
freelance Radio Presenter, and has been for the past 20 years.
