75th Anniversary Torch Relay – London Leg

75th Anniversary Torch Relay - London Leg

To celebrate the 75th Anniversary since the inception of the Air Cadets, the organisation has crafted a torch which is to be taken around the country by the corps, showcasing it around Britain’s iconic landmarks. It is travelling from John O Groats to Land’s End, finishing up at Predannack Airfield home of 626 VGS. On the 16th August 2016 myself, FS leggat, and CDT Kyte were part of a team of cadets from London Wing with a mission to take photographs with the torch at some of London’s most famous locations. By the end of the day we had walked in excess of ten miles, taking the torch from London Bridge all the way to the RAF club in Piccadilly, opposite Green Park. Along the way we stopped for pictures on Tower Bridge; in front of HMS Belfast, The Ritz, The Savoy, The Shard, Bomber Command, Nelson’s Column, St Paul’s Cathedral; on top of monument and inside RAF church, St Clement Danes. Thankfully the weather was perfect, making it a very enjoyable day – a unique opportunity for the both of us.
